Kay in Retirement

Scott O'Brien was guest speaker at the 2003 Florida Nurses Association benefit showing of Kay Francis' 1936 film portrayal of Florence Nightingale in The White Angel.  (He is pictured at far right with Patricia Mesmer, PhD, RN, and Nightingale expert dressed in character).

Scott is a life-long film buff and started collecting information on Kay after seeing a 1973 showing of Confession (1937).  He has made use of his research skills and Masters in Library Science degree by writing articles for film publications and guest lecturing.  Scott recently introduced two of Kay's "noir" films that she co-produced at Monogram, Allotment Wives (1945) and Wife Wanted (1946), at the San Francisco 2005 "Danger and Despair Noir Festival".  He lives with his partner Joel in Sonoma County, California.  (Contact the author at: sobaok@msn.com)
